Step Inside Bowlskis at Lakewood Theater — Where Retro Charm Meets Good Times

If you’re melting in these final dog days of summer and looking for something cool to do indoors (literally and figuratively), let me introduce you to one of my favorite little gems in Dallas: Bowlskis at the Lakewood Theater.

This place? She’s got history — and the kind of neon-lit, art deco soul that makes my mid-century-loving heart skip a beat.

Originally opened in 1938, the Lakewood Theater was once a glamorous movie palace with a glowing marquee that lit up the block. She hosted film premieres, jazz nights, and even a few cheeky burlesque shows back in the day. After sitting quiet for a while, she was given new life — and now she’s back, with bowling lanes, arcade games, and cocktails that make you feel like you stepped into a vintage Vegas lounge.

Let’s just say, if Joan Holloway planned a date night, this would be it.

What to Expect:

  • Boutique bowling: Think fewer lanes, more ambiance. The mood lighting is spot on, and the old theater architecture gives it all a cinematic flair.

  • Craft cocktails & mocktails: Whether you're sipping an old fashioned or a zero-proof beauty in a coupe glass, their bar menu delivers. Personally, I love a spot that knows a fun night doesn’t need booze to feel special. (and the pizza is delish!)

  • Arcade nostalgia: There's a whole level of classic games that'll transport you straight back to your mall rat era.

  • Live music & karaoke: They’ve kept the stage! And it’s available to rent out for concerts, karaoke and events.

And yes — the iconic Lakewood Theater marquee still shines, a beacon of vintage glam on the east side.

Why I Love It:

It's rare to find a spot that nails both vintage vibes and modern fun. Bowlski’s is perfect for date night, a funky family outing, or a night out with your best babes. And if you're someone like me who secretly (okay, not so secretly) wishes we still dressed up to go to the movies — you’ll feel right at home here.

Whether you're bowling a strike or just sipping a cherry-lime mocktail in the glow of neon lights, Bowlski’s lets you soak up a little piece of Dallas history without breaking a sweat.

Stay cool out there, friends — and let me know if you go. I just might meet you under the marquee. ✨

Tash
